BYODOIN TEMPLE

Byodoin temple is located in Uji city.

Byodoin Temple was built in 1052, at the end of Heian Period. The Phoenix Hall which is located in the main building of the temple has imaginative creature called phoenixes on its roof. The hall is very famous that it is even depicted on the 10 Yen coin. The temple is registered as one of UNESCO's World Heritage Site. You can go there about 15 minutes on foot from JR Uji station. The entrance fee is 600 yen but If you want to go inside the Phoenix Hall, you need to pay an additional 300 yen. All information in the hall is Japanese.
