· FOOD

We call a firefly squid "Hotaruika" because it flashes as a firefly. A firefly squid is edible in sushi restaurants and Izakaya in Japan. A firefly squid in Hyogo and Toyama is very famous. The best season to eat it is from February to May. It is served in many sushi restaurants and Japanese izakaya during this season as shown in the pictures.

In the first picture, we call it Hotaruika-no-syouyuduke. It means a firefly squid seasoned with soy sauce and its entrails. It smells fishy but it is very delicious.
