Heisei is the name of current Japanese era. It is originally used in Japan. New eras begin when a new emperor ascends the throne and previous emperor passes away. It is decided that the new era will be used on May 1st 2019, even if the current emperor is still living. The transition to the new era will start on April 1st at 11:30 am. We need to prepare for the use of Reiwa in computer systems for a month. Japanese era is used in newspapers and official documents in government agencies. Our Prime Minister will explain the meanings of the new era. Japanese people usually use the Japanese era(Heisei), when they submit applications to local governments. So, we are used to using the Japanese era rather than the Christian era.
