Lifetime employment is one of business custom in Japan. However, it is changed little by little. People aged 50 and above usually experience lifetime employment. They also experienced seniority-based wage systems. One of the top companies like Toyota recently announced that lifetime employment and seniority-based wage systems will not be continued in the future. It means that big companies have difficulty to continue paying all salaries of the employees until they retire. These big companies have sense of crisis to keep their businesses against the improvement of technology. I heard that many foreign people cannot understand lifetime employment in Japan. So we need to change old business systems to be accepted by foreign workers.
