Sakura-mochi is a rice cake filled with sweet bean paste and wrapped in a pickled cherry blossom leaf. It is a Japanese dessert consisting of sweet pink colored rice cake called mochi. A cherry blossom, or Sakura in Japanese, is a flower from Japan's most famous tree and is considered the national flower. Sakura-mochi literally means mochi with sakura leaf. There are two types of Sakura-mochi, one from Kansai and a different one from Kanto. The ones shown in the picture are from Kansai. It is traditionally eaten during the spring season, especially on Girl's Festival or Hinamatsuri.
