Schools in Japan have four categories.

Schools in Japan have four categories - elementary school, junior high school, high school and university or college. The school year starts from April 1 and ends at March 31. Children who are born between April 2 and April 1 of the next year study in the same grade. Elementary school and junior high school are mandatory education in Japan. It is 9 years in total, 6 years in elementary school and 3 years in junior high school. In Japan, we spend 3 years in high school, generally,  4 years in a university so we usually start working at 22 years old after graduation in universities. The most important entrance examination in schools is the entrance examination to enroll a university. It will be held in January 19 and 20 this year.
