SHICHI-GO-SAN

Shichi-go-san literally means seven-five-three.

· CULTURE

Shichi-go-san is a traditional Japanese ceremony to celebrate the growth of children. Families go to a shrine with their children wearing a Japanese traditional clothing. Girls celebrate when they turned three- and seven-year-old, and boys celebrate when they turned three- and five-year-old. A priest prays for their good health and growth at the shrine. Some shrines recently prepare children's clothing, dinner, photo and pray for families in the picture. The day of the celebration is on November 15, but recently we celebrate on a weekend or holiday in November because of our schedules. I also celebrated the growth of my children in the nearest shrine. When travelers go to shrines in November, they can see a Japanese traditional event.
