Taiyaki literally means grilled sea bream but it is not really made of fish. It is a fish-shaped pancake stuffed with azuki bean paste. Taiyaki was introduced on TV as the "best Japanese sweet" which is recommended by many foreign confectioners. Traditional Japanese confections are called Wagashi that is often made of mochi (rice cakes) and anko (azuki bean paste). Taiyaki as shown in the picture is made of wheat flour, eggs and high quality potato called Naruto-kintoki. It is hot and very delicious treat costs 200 yen. I highly recommend travelers to eat Taiyaki during travel in Japan.
