UJI CITY

Uji city is a city located in southern part of Kyoto prefecture.

Uji is the second largest city in Kyoto Prefecture and a good residence for commuters to go to Kyoto, Nara, and Osaka. It is located between two ancient capitals of Nara and Kyoto. If you plan a sightseeing with a historical experience, Uji is the place to be. Several tourist spots can be enjoyed in Uji such as the Mimuroto Temple, and the World Heritage Sites of Byodoin Temple and Ujikami Shrine. These temples are accessible by foot from JR Uji station. Tourists can also enjoy a shopping experience in Byodoin-Omotesando that offers a variety of experience like drinking and eating sweets made from Uji Green Tea. It is also famous for selling special local products. From Byodoin Temple, you can also visit the Uji City Botanical Park by bus. From November 10th to 25th, Autumn leave festival is held in the park. The entrance fee costs 600 yen but you can enter for free on Kansai Culture Day scheduled in November 17th and 18th.
