Chirashizushi is a kind of sushi and vinegar rice topped with fish, vegetables, egg and various other ingredients.


Chirashizushi is a kind of sushi. Chirashi means scattering chopped ingredients on top of rice. Zushi is another word form for sushi. The first letter is changed from s to z because chirashi is placed at beginning of the word. It is one of the complicated rules in phonology that we follow. It is a home-cooked dish and served on special days like the Girls' Festival on March 3. You can also eat it in sushi restaurants. The ingredients in the picture are cucumber, prawn, crab, squid, salmon, yellow tail, and tuna. These ingredients are topped on rice seasoned with vinegar. We usually eat it after drizzling the dish with soy sauce and wasabi.
