Our compulsory education is 9 years in total. Children go to elementary school for 6 years and junior high school for 3 years, as part of the compulsory education. Then they go to high school for 3 years and university for 4 years after compulsory education period. In case of the children who go to public elementary school and junior high school, they can go to school with their neighbor friends. Since schools are decided by their own district, children cannot decide schools to go. According to the 2017 statistics, 98% attend public elementary schools and 92% attend public junior high schools.
