TONTEKI

Tonteki means a pork steak in Japan.

· FOOD

When we say steak in Japan, it means a beef steak. A beef steak was called "Bifuteki" before. Then, people said a pork steak "Tonteki". Ton literally means pork and teki comes from steak. We currently do not use bifuteki but we call a pork steak "Tonteki. I ate tonteki in a mall today. Sliced pork is grilled by a pan with special sauce including soy sauce, mirin, Worceter shire sauce, ketchup, sugar, garlic etc. The meal set is for 890 yen.
